Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a form of massage that uses stretches and long strokes to release tension in the the body’s fascia or connective tissue.

I have been a client of numerous massage therapists in the past, as I have suffered with back pain off and on since the age of 12. My experiences have been variable, but I must say, Diane is among the best. She is amazingly knowledgeable and doggedly determined to get to the bottom of the problems I present her. I have benefitted greatly from her approach with both neuromuscular massage and myofascial release. As a physician, I have been very impressed with her professionalism and medical acumen. I recommend her wholeheartedly to all.

Myofascial stretch

Neck stretches are a form of myofascial release.
Fascia is a web of tissue that encloses the body’s organs, muscles, and bones from head to toe, and front to back. Your body’s fascia maintains structural integrity, provides support and protection to your body’s parts, and acts as a shock absorber.

Under normal circumstances, the fascia can stretch and move without restriction. When our bodies experience trauma — such as injury, scarring, inflammation or repetitive stress — it loses its flexibility and tightens.

Tightened fascia can become a source of tension to the rest of the body. Over time, the changes in your fascia can cause discomfort, pain and limit range of motion.

The goal of myofascial release is to stretch the fascia and release bonds between fascia, integument, muscles, and bones. During such a massage, knuckles, elbow, and fingers are used to apply pressure to the fascia tissue, starting slowly, working through each layer of tissue, until all of your fascia is loosened.

Much like neuromuscular massage therapy, myofascial release is designed to treat chronic pain, including neck, back, jaw and menstrual pain.
